Banks School District is located approximately 25 miles west of Portland along Highways 6 and 26. Banks, Oregon is a rural district that stretches 20 miles from east to west and approximately 18 miles north to south and represents 450 square miles. Most of the land is either farm land or forest land. The town of Banks, with a population of approximately 1400, is the only town of size in the district. Because of the large district size, approximately 95% of the students are bused.
Agriculture and timber are the main industries within the district, but the majority of employed people work in areas outside the community. The area has moved from an agricultural dominated community to a mix of agricultural and a more recent commuter group.
InterDistrict Transfers 2016-17
Requests to transfer between Banks School District and another district has been opened for 2016-17. The home district must approve any transfer request before it is submitted to the district the student wishes to attend. OSAA eligibility rules apply for high school transfers. School Board Meetings
The District School Board meets the second Monday of the month. The next meeting of the Board is October 10, 2016 in the District Office Board Room at 6:30 PM. The public is invited to attend. Please call the District Office at 503.324.8591 if you have any questions.
Hazardous weather or unexpected emergencies may require changes in school and bus schedules. The decision to cancel classes or delay the start of school will be prior to 5:45 a.m. If schools are forced to close during the school day, every effort is made to contact parents. Identification of Disabled Students
The Banks School District is seeking assistance in locating children with disabilities (birth through age 21) who have not graduated from high school and currently are not attending nor receiving other special services from public schools.
Oregon and federal law mandate educational services for children with disabilities. Banks School District provides educational programs and services for eligible children from kindergarten through high school. Services provided are appropriate to each child's disability. The Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) provides educational services for eligible children from birth to kindergarten.
Parents, guardians, or anyone who knows of a child (age five through 21*) with a disability currently not receiving educational services are asked to notify the Student Services Office at 503-324-5151.

Lead levels tested in Banks
Banks conducted 63 tests for lead levels in June 2016. One drinking fountain was replaced, and the lead levels in Banks School District are below the EPA's recommended. Levels. The official record of lead testing is available in the District Office.
